The Collaborative Point: Gardens and Art Space

Brief:

To design a Urban Acupuncture; small-scale interventions that release both physical and social pressure in a wider urban environment (Auckland City).

The Collaborative Point is a project that seeks to utilise and re-purpose the abandoned platforms and grass area behind Parnell’s The Strand Train Station. The key concept behind our design was 'Place' in relation to land use, but also to improve sustainability, transportation, water management and accessibility; all elements that, in part, make up our urban ecology.  We wanted our project to be an opportunity to incorporate creative elements in the terrain vague, utilising pockets of redundancy. From this, we hoped to stem initiatives that would promote a stronger sense of community in a city that is uninviting for some, and act as a space of welcome that bridges together all groups of people, through the sharing and exchange of ideas.
